Year 6 - World War One day
On Tuesday, Year 6 had a fantastic visit from Portals to the Past, which proved to be a great start to our WW1 topic. They started the day with a year group introduction as to how the war began, which involved the children becoming soldiers from across the world – a fast-talking, fast-moving experience like no other! Mike also shared with the children a number of genuine artefacts from the time period and astounded us all with his superb subject knowledge and enthusiasm. The children then went on to use their new-found knowledge to complete a complex quiz and spent some time learning a war-game called ‘Barrage’. In the afternoon, the children completed an obstacle course that mimicked life in the trenches; they were dared to not ring the alarm bells and wake the enemy! The day finished up with some training drills in the hall, led by their lord and master, Sergeant Everest. EA
