Year 4 Viking day

On Woden’s Day, the 23rd day of March, Year 4 had a visit from Sigbjorn Thorallson, a Viking traveller from ‘Portals to the Past’.  He told the story of the Viking raiders first visit to England and showed us some of the everyday items they would have used.  Bjorn also brought some Viking weapons and     armour in to show us (the chainmail was very heavy wasn’t it Eva!?) so the children could be trained up as Viking warriors!  To test their strength, they took part in spear wrestling to train for battle (Yes, 4T did win!) then witnessed Raknarok.  Here are some of the children’s highlights:

“I enjoyed seeing the artefacts when they were being passed around” – Oliver

“I liked the cotton spinning the best because it was satisfying” - Poppy

“I liked the spear wrestling because it tests your strength!” - Leon

“I liked watching Mr Hankin and Mrs Thomson smashing the watermelon with the axe” – Erica

“The story of Thor was the best because it was funny when somebody had to wear the wig” - Beril

“I liked all of Bjorn’s funny jokes.  Some of them were good!” – Tilly

The children had a wonderful day—thank you to Bjorn (Jack) from Portals to the Past for bringing    History to life for us!
