Year 6
Much of what we do is aimed at preparing the children for secondary school. The children need to leave us demonstrating skills of independence and should be taking an increased responsibility for their learning and organisation - especially with regards to homework, reading at home to an adult and ensuring that they know their times-tables and other key maths skills.
Communication between school and home is still vital and encouraged; we are quite happy for children and parents to communicate by e-mail and homework can be sent this way also.
At the end of the year, the children will take their end of Key Stage tests. They will be well prepared for this and though we aim for all the children to make progress and achieve to the best of their ability, we also think that it is important for their final year of primary school to be an enjoyable one and not just about practice test papers. With this in mind, we endeavour to make learning experiences as interesting and engaging as possible. Some of the key events we organise during the year can be seen below:
- Theatre Workshop – A Midsummer Night’s Dream
- Christmas Carol Concert
- Bridge-building workshop
- Residential visit – Sayer’s Croft
- End of Year Production
Our residential trip to Sayer’s Croft is always chosen as one of the most memorable aspects of the children’s time at Tadworth. Timed to fall after any tests, it is an opportunity for the children to enjoy a week away with their friends, taking part in outward bound activities while having a fantastic time too!
